The HPAT-Ireland is an admissions test used to assist with the selection of students into medicine. It is a test carried out separately to the Leaving Certificate exam, and your score is considered in conjunction with your Leaving Certificate points. Your total score is made up of your Adjusted Leaving Certificate Points plus your HPAT Score. In 2020, the minimum Total Score needed to guarantee a place in medicine was 728.

Hewitt College’s HPAT course is very popular and has proven to be hugely successful. The course prepares students to sit the HPAT and utilises a combination of MedEntry© (subscription required) materials and course materials written for Hewitt College. Our course enhances students’ logical reasoning, problem solving skills and non-verbal reasoning as well as strengthening their ability to understand the thoughts, behaviours and | or intentions of people. As part of this course, students will work through the library of original questions and papers drafted by our experienced tutors.

Our HPAT course at Hewitt College features separate 5th year and 6th year classes, run by excellent tutors.

Hewitt College runs a 16-week HPAT-preparatory course. Students will get a number of weeks to assimilate and practice each topic before moving on to the next, with assessment and feedback at every stage.

Hewitt College’s HPAT course is extremely accessible, and has an excellent success rate, as borne out by the volume of students entering Medicine undergraduate degrees.

Students hoping to take this course are advised to book as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Students who wish to become Primary School teachers must achieve a H4 (60-69%) or above in higher level Irish in order to attend Teacher Training College.

Hewitt College’s One-Year Part-Time Irish Course is designed for those whose hearts are set on becoming primary teachers, but who need help achieving the necessary grade in higher level Irish. The course is suitable for mature students planning a future career change, or for students repeating the Leaving Certificate. Our course is also open to those currently in third-level courses, who wish to take our course alongside their studies.

Students join our 6th year higher level Irish classes, either in person or online, and also have the option to virtually attend our 5th year higher level classes. This will be particularly useful for students who may feel that they have been away from the classroom for some time and are keen to maximise their exposure to senior cycle Irish and build upon their foundation of Irish.

All areas of the higher-level Irish Leaving Certificate examination are covered, with graded pre-examinations and oral examinations held throughout the year.

Hewitt College’s One-Year Part-Time Chemistry Course is perfect for those who would like some guidance as to how to achieve their potential in higher level Chemistry, a subject which is a requirement for anyone hoping to embark on a Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Science or Engineering degree, to name but a few.

This intensive and extensive course is suitable for both mature students planning a future career change, or for students repeating the Leaving Certificate. The course is also open to third-level students who wish to take our course alongside their studies. This is a great option for students who may have, for example, attained the points for Pharmacy in 2020 or 2021, but who do not have the necessary Chemistry grade. Points from a previous Leaving Certificate sitting can be combined with a grade in Chemistry in another Leaving Certificate sitting for the purposes of college entry.

Students in this course will join our 6th year higher level Chemistry classes, either in person or online, and also have the option to virtually attend our 5th year higher level classes. Mature students who are returning to the classroom have found the access to 5th year classes to be particularly helpful.

The course has been designed to focus on the examinable elements of the curriculum, covering all areas of the higher-level Chemistry Leaving Certificate examination with graded pre-examinations held throughout the year.

Study an extra subject at Hewitt College!

In these modern times, many Irish students are discovering that the best way to maximise their results and begin their desired career path lies in taking an extra subject outside of school.

Hewitt College not only facilitates these students, but ensures that the curriculum is so streamlined, the subject can be taught in one academic year. This means that 6th Year students can take these classes and be confident that they will be exam ready.

The experienced and exam-focused teachers at Hewitt College have concentrated their subject curriculums solely to the examinable elements. As a result, they dedicate their time to the examinable material. Their ultimate aim is to prepare their students to maximise Leaving Certificate results.

A key element of preparing students to achieve their potential involves teaching the intricacies of the Leaving Certificate State Examination Marking Schemes. Our teachers demonstrate how the papers in each subject are marked, dispelling the mystery and making the exam process more accessible.

As well as benefiting from efficient and concentrated course content, all students who take an extra subject at Hewitt College receive detailed and exam-focused notes, along with past State Examination questions and accompanying solutions.

In the event that accredited grades are accepted as part of Leaving Cert assessment in 2022, Hewitt College and its teachers are recognised to submit same.
